Any particular reason a loading screen is necessary? Can't you just put whatever text you want in the loading screen text areas?

Putting loading screen text means you have to "Press any key". Using a loading screen and putting your text directly onto the loading screen prevents this, I think.
not true, i tested this with another PC, once both PC had loaded, the map continued without waiting for the 'required' key press.

incorrect, the size is equal to the amount of characters displayed on the screen. compared to the image, it is close to nothing, but even without the loading screen, the map would still be around 6.3Mb, a lot bigger than most maps...

Yes, the actual loading text takes up space ( probably < 1 KB ), though from the context I assumed he meant the images only (of which there are none in the original version). Not considering the text and with the absence of imported images, the size would be 0 bytes.

Though comparing < 1 KB to nearly 2 MB is picking at straws.

Also, for your first release, I took the translated files and moved them over to the Korean version of version k (real), which resulted in a 4.93 MiB file (larger if you don't flush properly - keeps growing if you keep working with the same file without flushing).

my attempts to size it down have failed so far. flushing did not work (i probably did something wrong)
de-protecting the old file and simply add all i changed did not work either, each effect has even less than 100K change in size...

so i'm getting curious as of how you managed to make it 4.9MB (without loading screen i assume).
maybe a bit more detailed instruction would be useful.

Well I detailed this once in the channel already, but I'll go through what I did very specifically this time around.

1. Open up MPQ Recover
2. Load up the original Korean version of Fate K (real)
3. Check "Deep Scanning"
4. Click the "Scan" button
5. Save the result file to MPQMaster's Listfiles directory as a .txt file
6. Close MPQ Recover

7. Open up MPQMaster
8. Load up the original Korean version of Fate K (real), use the generated list file from the previous steps (I also checked to use Warcraft III ROC.txt, Warcraft III TFT.txt, and Warcraft III.txt - though these might not be necessary)
9. Double click the Scripts folder
10. Delete war3map.j
11. Go back to the root directory of the map
12. Delete Scripts folder
13. Run the flush operation
14. Exit MPQMaster

15. Open up WinMPQ
16. Load up the Fate K (real) map you previously modified with MPQMaster
17. In the WinMPQ options, add the listfile you generated with MPQ Recover to the external listfiles list
18. Run the compact (flush) operation in WinMPQ (the map file size should now decrease from the removed war3map.j script)
19. Delete the not translated war3map files
20. Compact (flush) (probably not necessary, but I did so nonetheless)
21. Import the translated war3map files
9001. Feel free to exit WinMPQ at this point. Or choose not to.

Notes: after you do the middle steps with MPQMaster, it should no longer be necessary to use MPQMaster anymore when you want to update the translated files in the map. In other words, the MPQMaster steps should only be done once per map. MPQ Recover obviously is unnecessary to keep using as well.

WinMPQ should suffice if you need to open the map again at a later date.

Those are basically the exact steps I followed, anyway.

Here are the binaries for the tools I'm using if those steps don't work and you want to give these a shot:
http://70.170.5.190:27000/bs/fun/MPQ_Recover.7z
http://70.170.5.190:27000/bs/fun/MPQMaster.7z
http://70.170.5.190:27000/bs/fun/WinMPQ.7z

Good luck with that.
