If the map file in the other thread is the same as the map in this thread, then someone fails at flushing the mpq! (>7 MB file size?)

i used the vexorian map optimizer on it, but it only managed to make it bigger, maybe later i'll try some ways to make it smaller.

remember, this is a test version.

and yes, it is the same map as discussed in the other thread.

You'd likely have to manually flush it using an MPQ editing tool. It's sometimes a hassle.

I didn't notice before, but I guess most of the additional file size came from the loading screen images you placed. Around a 1700 KB increase to the map size, heh.

that is correct, i used .tga files which are a lot bigger than .blp files that can be used as well. however, my gimp could not save files in .blp format...

the music is .mp3 as well, which might be reducible to .mdi files which (according to White flower) could be up to 30x smaller. no clue how i might do this though...

something to change later, i would like the translation to be finished first.

Nice translation though I think "killed" should be turned into "deaths" hopefully you can get the file size down.

originally i had "deaths" there but that was to long and mixed with "level" next to it Razz this was the easiest solution.

Keep death as it is shorten level to lvl.

that would not help, the point where 'level' starts is fixed. so shortening it down to 'lvl' would not help...

the only thing i might be able to do is move the whole level column a space or two to the side. that way i might have enough space for "deaths". (gotta find that thing first though, no clue if i can do this)

but if you guys find any "string??" combination (?? should be a number from 1-75) post them and where you found them.
already found/done:
Quote :
string20, String28, string29, string31, string35, string56, string57, string58, string59, string60, string61, string62, string63, string65, string66, string67, Backgound music fixed and Fixed grail sign text issue

string70=unknown string 10/20 min in-game FFA (color: light yellow) <-- anyone a idea what this was? it seems like it only turns up at FFA...
it is not a part of the regular 10 min notification that shows up at every other game mode.. (the one that says that you get 10SP and that SC are reset to 12)

All the naming convention you see here is based on White-Flower's previous translation. This does not accord with the original names used in the game at all. We need to work on this.

PM me so that we could meet to talk about this.

I have posted a newer version which should have a lot more fixed than the original version:
http://www.epicwar.com/maps/116123/

FFA mode should be pretty much fixed as i had a lot of assistance in that. the team modes however may be lacking, i would like some assistance in rooting those out.
if you try this map and see any "string" with a number between 1 and 75 there, tell me by posting the number, perhaps the color, and where it appeared (and possibly, you could even tell me what it was supposed to be).

what changed from the 0.5 to the 0.7 is here:
Quote :
string20='Command Spells Ready'

String28='Control in'
string29='The Grail sign was not controlled by anyone.'
string31='Grail sign is reset and is active again'

string35='Grail sign is no longer active'
string37='Round time left:'

string47=' Revive:'
string48=' Has won the game!'

string56='name', kick this player from the game?'
string57='A kick vote is started by 'name' to kick 'name', 5 seconds until voting starts'
string58='Kick vote has started, voting lasts for 10 seconds'
string59='No'
string60='Yes'
string61='Voting is over and player will be kicked. The game will continue without the player.'
string62='Bye Bye!'
string63='Voting is over and the player will not be kicked. The game will continue with the player.'

string65='Command Spells with |c00ff808051SP|r and |c00ff808051CS|r cost can be used for free'
string66='Global cooldown on Command Spells disabled'
string67='Command Spell 'longer cast' no longer active'

string70=unknown stirng 20 min in-game FFA
Backgound music fixed
Fixed grail sign text issue
Quests gained english info
standard team name '1_/2_' changed to 'Team1/Team2'

known issues: DM round timer appears twice.
and for those who thought the map is to big, my attempts to size it down failed a bit. the .blp loading screen failed to show up, and brining the quality down, resulted in a f*cking ugly (and unreadable) loading screen.

Any particular reason a loading screen is necessary? Can't you just put whatever text you want in the loading screen text areas?

Nearly 2 MB just for a pretty loading screen sounds like idiocy to me.

Putting loading screen text means you have to "Press any key". Using a loading screen and putting your text directly onto the loading screen prevents this, I think.

That should only be the case if you're using the loading screen that shows every players' load progress (as in, the ladder type loading screen).

(I don't recall if that's the case in Brogath's version)

Nonetheless, I don't think it's worth a 2 MB map size increase, since even the loading screen that requires a "press any key" will, by default, click through for you within a certain time if you take too long.

(When loads take a very long time, that's because a player is taking a very long time to load - not because he's choosing not to press a key)

having a loading screen gives a feeling that the map is a serious one and not something build in two days, it shows a bit of professionalism to the map.
in my opinion a loading screen is a important part of a map even though you only see it a fraction compared to the time you play the actual map.

I would consider the loading screen to be one of the least important parts of a map. I believe that many people would throw out a loading screen in lieu of more content to their maps. Tacking on 2 MB of loading screen seems like a "just because I can" response now that the map cap is 8 MB.

I've never seen people comment on the loading screen before. They comment on the preview image often enough, since they're in the chat room when it appears. As for the loading screen, too many things occur when the game actually starts up for them to really comment. Any good things I hear about F/A II come from the gameplay.

Considering that an English map would most likely be primarily hosted for new players, and the primary distribution of such a map would be through downloading from hosts...

If anything, I've seen more people leave from the downloading taking too long rather than "Wow, that loading screen was pretty bad. Alt + QQ." (Well, they can't really comment even if they wanted to because of the cinematic and all)

And besides all that, unless you had the image made specifically for the map, I wouldn't consider it quite so professional. This goes for every map, anyway, as it's commonly not the case that maps have images drawn for them in my experience.

What was the size of the original load screen? The one with black bg?
